  Chapter One

  Year: 4014

  Planet: VisOrrenta

  No mate in sight!

Alicka West worried her teeth over her lower lip. Prince Kalen, of VisOrrenta, had promised her they wouldn’t short Earth medicine just because a mate hadn’t been found for her. Yesterday she’d turned thirty.

  Thirty!

Old age was creeping up on her. If she’d been indoors, Alicka would have inspected her image in a mirror. The patio outside the palace, where she spent a lot of time studying her new planet on a computer, was lovely today as always. Many flowers were in full bloom, their scent perfuming the air. VisOrrenta was a colorful planet. She liked color.

Was she too drab, short, and plump to be here? Once again, she worried about them not finding her mate yet. At least one hundred men had come to visit her in the last six months. One hundred failures. That was just too much.

A sharp pain pinched her stomach. Worry was eating her up. What if she never fulfilled her part of the pact? If she didn’t have a natural mate here, would one of the men pick her as a chosen mate? She was awfully short compared to them. The shortest VisOrrentians were six and a half feet tall. At five feet four inches and one hundred forty pounds, she looked like a round runt. Since her waist was small compared to her large breasts and hips, Alicka guessed she was more like a curvy runt. The males may not want to have babies with her for fear of their children being runts like her.

Her good friend, Keneese, would have a fit if she knew what was running through Alicka’s mind. They’d come here together. That had been a nerve-wrecking day. Keneese had helped her adjust to life on her new planet.

Another pain pierced her abdomen. She clutched her belly and looked around for one of the men that were usually close by. None of the men were in sight. Her stomach was really acting up today.

Mr. Tickles, her pet lukpas, was asleep on a pillow near her chair. The adorable creature had been given to her by Taglee, one of the palace guards assigned to watch over her and help her adjust to her new life. Mr. Tickles had made her smile many times over the long months. She looked at her pink-and-white pet. He was snoring lightly. He had given her lots of laughter and love.

The crazy, three-legged animal looked kind of like a bunny, the way it hopped around. It had two legs in the front and one slightly thicker, stronger one in the back. The two-toned pink, fluffy animal had white around its dark-yellow eyes, making it look like a good bandit. It was great at sneaking up on a person or object and tickling its target with its two-foot-long fuzzy tail. The body of adult lukpas was only one foot tall, tops. Her pet was closer to eight inches tall.

The word “adult” made her think about how old she was getting. What if it took years for her to find a mate? The VisOrrentians seemed to be patient beings in most areas that involved women and children. The men were pretty quick to pull out their claws if offended by another male, though.

Another pain shot through her stomach. She took a deep breath and tried to calm her nerves. Looking out into the distanc
e, Alicka stood and walked away from the patio table. Blue trees captured her attention like they did every day. The trees had dark-blue trunks and light-blue leaves. From here, she could just make out the fruit weighing down the trees’ large branches.

Twice, she’d been served some of the fruit she thought came from those trees. Later those evenings, she’d noticed that her stomach felt better than it had in a long while.

Even on Earth, she’d been a worrywart. Her little sister was accident-prone and her mom and dad usually went into a worried haze when something bad happened to Evy. Her sister was twenty-five now, so she could handle most incidents on her own. Alicka hoped Evy avoided all accidents like the plague now that she wasn’t around to help out.

Alicka had been assured that the proper government officials had been notified of her new location before the spacecraft she’d been brought here on had left Earth. The government was supposed to notify her family and boss about her being chosen to fulfill the pact. All she could do was hope the officials had contacted her family. It would be too cruel not to do so immediately.

Another pain hit her stomach. She looked around once more for a male. When she didn’t see one, she decided to walk over to the trees and get a piece of fruit. If she was correct, it would help her stomach feel better.

As she took off across the blue-green grass, she thought of Earth’s pact with VisOrrenta. Global warming had hit her old planet hard in the year 3850. Over the next few years, many plants died out and were never brought back to life ever again. Looking around VisOrrenta, she was amazed at how lush and beautiful it was.

Several scientists in 3955 had created a virus to take out government officials. That didn’t help the already-struggling planet at all. That virus ended up killing a lot of the population.

In the year 3960, VisOrrentians approached Earth with a pact that helped both planets. For breeding-age females, they’d supply Earth with the medicine it needed to keep many from dying of different diseases.

A grin curled her lips as she neared the pretty blue trees. This planet produced lots of medicinal plants. She was hoping the fruit from this type of tree would help heal her belly. A pang of guilt spiked through her. Here she was on a beautiful planet while her family and most of the human race were still on Earth.

The VisOrrentians hadn’t taken many females yet. So far, they’d given way more than they’d taken. Although she felt bad for all of the humans on Earth, Alicka understood that VisOrrenta couldn’t house all humans. They probably wouldn’t want to, either.

Humans had become a crazy society with the government ruling over the remaining people with an iron fist, in the name of saving them, of course. If a person barely crossed the government officials or their laws, they were thrown into a jail cell and not given any medicine or even any healing herbs to help with any aliments the prisoners got. Yes, Earth was a mess.

A loud breath escaped her lips when she reached the pretty blue trees. Looking up, she noticed how tall the trees were. Damn. Needing to find one with lower branches, Alicka walked further into the grove.

One looked promising, so she stopped and tried to jump for it. After six leaps, she pushed her wild bangs out of her eyes and snorted.

Deep in the grove, there had to be a tree with lower branches. She kept walking until she found one she was sure she could get a piece of fruit from. Taking a fortifying breath, she squatted, and with a wild swing of her arms, she jumped.

  * * * *

Slanon Terrisic poured a container of infused water around the base of the tree in front of him. He stepped back and looked it over. This picplom tree was only six months old. At four feet tall, it was doing all right. He wanted his trees to do better than all right, so he’d made up a brew of nutrients that should help it to be stronger and still grow at a faster rate.

  Thud…puff…thud….puff.

What was that noise? Curious, Slanon headed in the direction of the noise. He weaved his way around several trees. He passed one more tree and his eyes widened. Amusement filled him at the sight of a very short, extremely curvy human female trying to get some of his fruit.

She must be the female my brother brought back from Earth, he thought to himself. The little thing looked like a cute jumping sprite.

For all the effort she was putting out, she was missing the fruit by a good two feet. There was no way she was ever going to get a prized picplom that way.

Determination masked her pretty face. She squatted and, with a wild swing of her arms, she jumped. This time she barely got off the ground. His amusement died when a look of sad frustration crossed her face.

Slanon’s heart melted. He cleared his throat and pushed away from the tree he’d been leaning against. He held back a grin when she looked over and up at him. Her bright blue eyes widened.

Relief cleansed her startled expression. “Oh, thank goodness. Can you get me a piece of fruit? I’m having a little trouble reaching it.”

It took everything he had to hold back a burst of laughter. “Why would I help you steal my fruit?”

Bright red flushed her cheeks in the cutest way. He couldn’t believe it when his breeding rod started swelling. This burgeoning development had him paying attention to her in a different way.

She bit her lip and her gaze darted to the ground. He noticed her hand moving to her stomach and rubbing it lightly. Was she all right? He stepped closer to her and was about to ask when she looked into his eyes. Desire like he’d never felt blasted through his groin.

“I wasn’t stealing. I need the fruit to test it for medicinal purposes. I’m willing to help you in whatever way I can to pay for it.” She took a deep breath and her lovely eyes widened slightly. A frown crinkled her brow and she crossed her legs.

Her arousal wafted up to him, causing his heart to pick up its pace. She sniffed the air and he realized he was putting off mate-calming pheromones and endorphins. His gaze shot to the pulse beating in her neck. It was sprinting as fast as his own. He inhaled her arousal into his lung and wondered if she was his natural mate.

To find out, Slanon reached over and easily plucked a piece of fruit from the tree they were standing under. “For the sake of research, I’ll give it to you, sweetling.”

Stepping into her personal space, he handed her the picplom. To test his theory, he made sure their fingers touched. She gasped at the electrical charge that surged between them.

His vision sharpened and he knew the blue and gold colors of his eyes were swirling from emotion. The primitive beast in him wanted to roar. He held it at bay for fear of scaring his little mate.

“Thank you.” She swiped her pink tongue over her lower lip. “You smell so good, my stomach already feels better.” Small white teeth worried her lip and he groaned. “Your eyes are swirling. They are pretty.”

He filled his lung with her erotic scent once again. “What’s your name?” It would be wrong to claim her without knowing her name first, even though the beast in him was urging him to do just that.

“I’m Alicka West. What’s your name?” She uncrossed and then crossed her legs once again.

A moan rumbled up from his chest when the scent of her arousal rose up to his nose and caressed its way into his lung. “I’m Slanon Terrisic. I claim you, Alicka, as my natural mate.”

  Chapter Two

Slanon watched her mouth drop open. His breeding rod fought the front of his pants for freedom. He’d seen a few videos of humans breeding and knew they used their mouth part of the time. He couldn’t wait to taste her and be tasted by her.

She looked down at her own curvy body and then looked up into his eyes. “Are you sure?” Turning her head, she glanced around and then back up at him. “Nobody heard you. I’ll understand if you want to take your words back.” Her head bobbed conspiringly. “I’m kinda short and dumpy. I don’t want you to feel trapped into picking me.”

His heart twisted with each word she spoke. Her mouth said one thing but her expressive eyes begged him to claim her, and
that’s just what he was going to do.

He smiled down at her, wrapped his arms around her, and looked into her eyes. “You are short, but so am I for a VisOrrentian. I wouldn’t call you dumpy. I call you curvy. These luscious curves are perfect. Feel what you do to me.” Slanon pressed his hips forward. Her breath caught sweetly when his erection pressed into her stomach. “I can smell your arousal and your heart is racing along with mine. The chemistry between us is how I know we are natural mates. You are mine and I plan on claiming you right now.”

The prettiest smile he’d ever seen transformed her face. “I won’t give you another chance to back out. I want you too badly.”

“Good. Are you familiar with a claiming?” He hoped so, the faster he took her the better.

“I’ve read up on it and my friend has been through it.” Her voice was sweet and breathy.

“I need you now. My body is putting off pheromones and endorphins which will help you relax and enjoy our breeding. If you have concerns, talk to me, okay, sweetling?” With great effort, he contained his need to rip her clothes off and sink his aching erection deep into her soft, warm body.

She nodded a bit nervously. Not able to control himself a moment longer, Slanon cupped her face in his hands and eased his mouth over hers. The feel of her soft lips pressed against his was wonderful. He lightly brushed his lips across hers until she opened for him.

Slanon loved the feel of her soft tongue against his rougher one. As he deepened the kiss, his hands eased down to her breasts. A fresh shot of claiming lust hit his breeding rod when he lifted the heavy mounds of flesh. She shivered when he ran his thumbs over the beaded peaks. The need to claim her was growing into a wild, uncontrollable beast.
